Vanilla Glazed Cinnamon Buns

Cinnamon-Bun

Use your bread machine to take the hard work out of these delicious cinnamon rolls. Just pop all the ingredients into your bread machine and run the dough cycle, roll the dough out, top with filling and then bake and glaze to create these scrumptious tea time treats at home. I love this recipe because one of the things I miss about living overseas is Cinnabon, and I think these come pretty darn close! I pop them into the microwave for 20 seconds and have them warm with a cup of tea for morning or afternoon tea. YUM!

Dough

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 100 grams butter, melted
  • 3 1/2 cups white ‘00’ flour
  • 3 tablespoons raw caster sugar
  • Good pinch of salt
  • 1 x 7g sachet of active dry yeast

Filling

  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/8 cup brown sugar
  • 1/8 cup raw caster sugar
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Glaze

  • 1 cup icing mixture
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk

  1. Add ingredients to bread machine as recommended by manufacturer and run the dough cycle.
  2. Turn dough out onto floured surface and knead for about a minute and then allow to rest for 15 minutes.
  3. Roll dough into a rectangle, about 15 x 10 inches. Brush the melted butter all over the dough and then sprinkle the sugars, cinnamon & nutmeg on top.
  4. Roll dough up tightly starting at the long side and then cut into 1 inch pieces.
  5. Place rolls cut side down into a greased baking pan. Cover and let rise in warm, draft free place until the rolls have doubled in size. This should take around 45 minutes.
  6. Bake in preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool for 15 minutes.
  7. Combine the icing mixture, vanilla & milk and whisk until icing mixture has dissolved. Drizzle the buns with the glaze, sprinkle with extra cinnamon if desired and then separate and serve or store.

Augh -don’t do this to me early in the morning when there is no food in my hotel room!!!!

this makes me want a bread machine just so I can make these delicious cinnamon buns. I absolutely adore the vanilla glaze as well.

@Mardi – It’s torturous isn’t it? I’m so addicted to these things I got up 2 hours ago (it’s 5.45am right now) to make some for breakfast!

@Jessie – You can make this without a bread machine. Use a kitchen mixer with a dough hook to mix the dough and then let rise until double in size (about an hour and a half). Then follow the recipe from step 3 onwards. You can also mix by hand. Just sift the flour onto a clean countertop, make a well in the centre and add the remaining ingredients. Mix by hand and knead until you have a smooth dough, let rise and follow on from step 3 :-)

Looks great! Though I can’t believe you actually MISS Cinnabon when you can make something this tasty yourself… Oh, I see, you got up at 3:45. Never mind, I understand.

@Simply Life – It’s a little time consuming, but not too much actual work involved. Plus, they’re well worth the minimal effort!
@Mumsy – Sounds like a good plan. I think I’ll do the same! Although I think I will make mine the night before and just microwave them in the morning to have with coffee while we’re unwrapping Santa’s gifts :-)
@Jim-49 – I agree. No matter what other morning treat I try, I always come back to cinnamon buns!
@The Chickenless Chick – That’s the one downside. They are so darn addictive, I just HAD to make them at that ghastly time in the morning, as it was all I wanted to eat for breakfast. Nothing else would suffice!

Awesome! Love the sound of it and it looks perfect! Looks better than a cinnabon to me :o )

These look like awesome! What a great reason to break out that bread machine that’s been collecting dust for the past few months. Thanks for the delicious idea!
